ʻŌhiʻa lehua - Eternal Blossoms
ʻŌhiʻa lehua, a native tree of Hawaiʻi, is known for its constantly blossoming red flowers. In Hawaiʻian mythology, ʻŌhiʻa and Lehua were young lovers separated by the volcano goddess, who, in a jealous fit, transformed ʻŌhiʻa into a tree. Other gods took pity upon the devasted Lehua, thus turning her into a flower upon the ʻōhiʻa tree. When a lehua flower is plucked from an ʻōhiʻa tree, the sky fills with rain, a symbol of the separated lovers' tears.
